WHISKY COCKTAILS

It’s brilliant on its own, but a Tasmanian whisky is just as good in a mouth-watering cocktail!

 

Tasmanian Old Fashioned

This whisky cocktail is an out-and-out classic of the 1960s that will make you feel like a sharp-suited Don Draper in no time.

Ingredients

1 thick slice orange peel
1 maraschino cherry, with stem
1 tsp sugar syrup (also sold as gomme syrup)
2-3 drops bitters
ice cubes, as necessary
50ml Sullivans Cove Bourbon matured malt whisky
twist of lemon peel, to garnish

Method

Take the orange peel and squeeze it with your fingers. Rub the peel around the insides of a whisky tumbler, then place into the glass. Add the cherry, sugar syrup and bitters, along with three ice cubes.
Add half of the whisky and stir for about ten seconds. Add more ice and the remaining whisky and stir again for 10-15 seconds.
To serve, garnish with lemon peel.

Belgrove Julep

Indulge your inner Mark Twain with a fine spin on this Kentucky classic.

Ingredients

    • 60 ml. Belgrove White Rye
    • 15 ml. Demerara or simple syrup (1:1 sugar:water)
    • 4-5 mint stalks

Method

  1. Put syrup, rye, and 8-10 mint leaves into a rocks or julep glass. Muddle gently, just to release the oils.
  2. Fill with crushed ice, mounded over top of glass. Insert 2 mint stalks into ice. Insert drinking straw into ice next to mint. (Make sure drinking straw is cut so that your nose is immersed in the mint while drinking.)

Anchor down with this tasty combination of fine Tasmanian spirits.

Ingredients

  • 20mL sugar syrup
  • 30mL Lark Distillers Selection Whisky 46%
  • 20mL Lark Quiet Cannon Rum
  • 20mL Seppeltsfield Port
  • Dash of aromatic bitters and orange bitters

Method

  1. Shake all ingredients together in an ice-filled shaker.
  2. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
  3. Garnish with a twist of orange.

  • 45mL Overeem whisky
  • 25mL sweet vermouth
  • Dash of aromatic bitters

Method

  1. Stir all ingredients over ice then strain into a chilled cocktail glass filled with ice.

Henry’s Lemon Lime & Whisky

A tasty and citrusy Hellyers Road speciality

Ingredients

Makes 4—5 medium-sized glasses.
  • 1 teaspoon bitters
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • 125 ml Hellyers Road Original Single Malt.
  • 1 litre chilled lemonade
  • 30ml freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 30ml freshly squeezed lemon juice

Method

  1. Pour the bitters, lime and lemon juice into a jug (larger than 1.25 litres).
  2. Add the crushed ice and then pour over Hellyers Road .
  3. Finally, add the lemonade.

  • 15ml lemon juice
  • 120ml ginger beer

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients in a highball glass and stir.

Belgrove Espresso Martini

This deliciously good cocktail is sure to impress coffee-lovers.

Ingredients

  • 30ml Belgrove whisky
  • 30ml Kahlua
  • 30ml strong black coffee.

Method

  1.  Shake all ingredients together in an ice-filled shaker to form a foamy top. Strain into a chilled martini glass.
